Pauline, Petrova and Posy Fossil are sisters - with a difference. All three were adopted as babies by Great Uncle Matthew, an eccentric and rich explorer who then disappeared, leaving them in the care of his niece Sylvia.

The girls grow up in comfort until their money begins to run out and nobody can find Great Uncle Matthew.Things look bleak until they hit on an inspired idea: Pauline, Petrova and Posy will take to the stage. But it's not long before the Fossils learn that being a star isn't as easy as they first thought . . .

About the Author

Noel Streatfeild was born in Sussex in 1895 and was one of three sisters. Although she was considered the plain one she ended up leading the most glamorous and exciting life! After working in munitions factories and canteens for the armed forces when WWI broke out, Noel followed her dream of being on stage and went to RADA where she became a professional actress.

She began writing children's books in 1931 and Ballet Shoes was published in 1936. She quickly became one of the most popular authors of her day. When she visited Puffin exhibitions, there were queues right out of the building and all the way down The Mall. She was one of the first winners of the Carnegie Medal and was awarded an OBE in 1983. Noel Streatfeild lived in London. She died in 1986.

My Dancing Tap Shoes By Chesley Nelson

RRP $14.72

This book is about how happy it made a little girl when her mom bought her a pair of tap dancing shoes while on a shopping trip at the mall. It tells about some fun filled exciting experiences both boys and girls may have with a pair of tap dancing shoes. The illustrator used Chesley's original artwork ideas as well as his/her own in the illustrations. The last two illustrations in her book are of dancewear used in her first dance recital.

As Chesley's mother, I like this book because it allows children to see what they can do too by putting forth the effort to do their best whatever the task, and not take shortcuts or take the easy way out all the time, especially in their reading and writing at school. I hope it will give students the confidence to persevere in their goals/dreams no matter what others do or say or how difficult it may get at times. This is also a fun and exciting book.

Chesley wrote this story in class one day about something she enjoyed doing, taking tap dancing lessons.

The Corner House Girls In A Play

RRP $17.99

"I never can learn them in the wide, wide world! I just know I never can, Dot!" "Dear me! I'm dreadfully sorry for you, Tess," responded Dorothy Kenway-only nobody ever called her by her full name, for she really was too small to achieve the dignity of anything longer than "Dot." "I'm dreadfully sorry for you, Tess," she repeated, hugging the Alice-doll a little closer and wrapping the lace "throw" carefully about the shoulders of her favorite child. The Alice-doll had never enjoyed robust health since her awful experience of more than a year before, when she had been buried alive. Of course, Dot had not got as far in school as the sovereigns of England. She had not as yet heard very much about the history of her own country. She knew, of course, that Columbus discovered it, the Pilgrims settled it, that George Washington was the father of it, and Abraham Lincoln saved it.
